SPU Student Residence – Sol Plaatje University residence fees
Student residences are a home-away-from-home where an environment conducive to learning is cultivated. Residences aim to create a healthy learning environment where students from diverse backgrounds can co-exist and enjoy basic rights.
Sol plaatje university residence
SPU has four on-campus residences. Moroka Hall of Residence, located on the central campus and accommodates 550 students. Mhudi Hall, located off Du Toitspan Road and accommodates 62 students. Ra-Thaga Hall, located off Edward Street and accommodates 112 students.
RESIDENCES
The academic success of students remain our top priority and it is for this reason that academic wardens were appointed.
Assisting the wardens in this task are elected house committees.
We aim to provide accommodation for approximately 60% of our students, with preference given to first-year students and to students from outside of Kimberley.

It is important to note that the university does not enter into any lease agreements with any landlords.
It is a relationship between the landlord and the student and/or the students’ parent/guardian.
Some student funders, like the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), does however require the university to recommend off-campus accommodation.

Students are advised to make sure that the off-campus accommodation they secure is recommended by the university before signing any lease agreements.
This is important as some sponsors will not fund accommodation that is not recommended by the university.
Should students require assistance with understanding the terms of their lease agreements then they are advised to contact the residence manager.
Please note the following:
– Sol Plaatje University has no intention to enter into any agreement with any Accredited Off-Campus Accommodation. Accreditation merely serves as an indication that the property meets the minimum requirements for Private Accredited Student Accommodation as provided for in terms of relevant legislation. Any agreements entered into will be between the owners of Private Accredited Student Accommodation and the Students occupying the property.
– SPU accepts no liability in respect of any amounts owing to any Accredited Off-Campus Accommodation. Any Accredited Off-Campus Accommodation will be obliged to enter into an agreement with each individual student, and recover all outstanding amounts from such students directly.
– Accreditation is an annual process. This list is only valid until 31 December 2021.
– Accreditation can be revoked through the course of the year if it is found that previously Accredited Entities no longer meets the minimum requirements. In such an instance, the relevant landlord as well as the students residing there will be informed accordingly.
Important notes
Accommodation in the university residences is not a right but a privilege;
Each student will sign a declaration that will bind him/her to the rules of the residences;
Residents are financially responsible for payment of a full term’s occupation irrespective of the date of occupation;
A resident is supposed to occupy the room that he/she is allocated failing which the room will be given to another deserving student.

Sol Plaatje University residence fees – How much is the registration fee at SPU?
The Sol Plaatje University (SPU) Registration Fee for 2022 is between R3000 to R4000. Following SPU registration, Students must pay the registration fee before applying to the Sol Plaatje University. SPU Application fees will not be refunded.
