UP Student Residence – UP accommodation 2022; The Department of Residence Affairs and Accommodation, fondly referred to as the TuksRes Family, is a stand-alone business unit, with various management teams serving residence students.
With close to 10 000 students in our accommodation spaces, the University of Pretoria is proud to be known as the largest residential university in South Africa.
By having a broad structure like TuksRes, one is able to manage the various needs of our student sector living in a residence.
About Us
In October 2004, the Council of the University of Pretoria made an executive decision to streamline all the various functions related to residences under one business unit. This was to alleviate the various silos that existed all over campus and therefore the Department of Residence Affairs and accommodation (TuksRes) was born.

To strive towards creating a community that fosters safety/security, personal development/growth and the rendering of professional services. We are furthermore committed to be responsive to the needs of all residents and to be driven by the ideal of realising a better quality of student life in our residences.

Student residences are a home-away-from-home where an environment conducive to learning is cultivated. Residences aim to create a healthy learning environment where students from diverse backgrounds can co-exist and enjoy basic rights.
Important notes
- Accommodation in the university residences is not a right but a privilege;
- Each student will sign a declaration that will bind him/her to the rules of the residences;
- Residents are financially responsible for payment of a full term’s occupation irrespective of the date of occupation;
- A resident is supposed to occupy the room that he/she is allocated failing which the room will be given to another deserving student.
How to apply for accommodation at UP?

University of the Pretoria residence fees – How much is the registration fee at UP?
The University of the Pretoria (UP) Registration Fee for 2022 is between R3000 to R4000. Following UP registration, Students must pay the registration fee before applying to the University of the Pretoria. UP Application fees will not be refunded.
